Sanderson's Diary, February 2006
February 2 Okay, so it is Groundhog Day today. What’s the big deal? A rodent with a silly name is going to pop up out of its hole and look for its shadow. They couldn’t do that around here unless they were wearing swim fins. January’s rain has just kept coming, so I’ve just upped my quota of naps. Don’t I look peaceful? Sure beats popping up out of holes like those moles that get pounded at Chucky Cheese. Winter weather was made for snoozing.
February 10 Did I tell you that I got a radio-controlled mouse for Christmas? I call it “Whiskers,” and it sure is fun. Mom controls it from her favorite chair, but I control it by swatting it over onto its back, a position from which Whiskers finds it hard to recover. You should hear it spinning its feet in desperation! I think it is one of those toys that is meant to be run on smooth surfaces, because it does tend to get hung up on the uneven surface of the carpet. But that makes it more fun, as it gives me more time to swat it into kingdom come! February 12 The 2006 Winter Olympics are now taking place in Torino, Italy. Didn’t Ford used to make a car called the Torino? Funny, but most of the vehicle ads are from Chevrolet. You’d have thought Ford would have taken advantage of the name opportunity to bring back the Torino in honor of the Olympics. Or maybe they tried to, but it turned out to be another Edsel. Hey, if they had asked a cat for design input, it might not have flopped. We can be very creative during our napping hours! February 14 Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone! It has been fun around here lately. Every time Mom has the front door open, I try to get out. She thinks I’ve been “lookin’ for love,” because of Valentine’s Day. Actually, there has been an upswing in unusual critters outside. At night they have been running across the property, causing me to run from room to room to see what they’re up to. Mom doesn’t understand it. Every time she turns on the outside lights, there is nothing to be seen. But I keep telling her that they have a sixth sense about illumination and aren’t going to show themselves. I have managed to sneak through the front door a couple of times. Of course, once I got out onto the porch, I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to go, and my indecision made me a pretty easy target to be snatched up and redeposited inside. I guess that black kitten that was by again this afternoon is just going to have to pine after me. Darn these humans. They just don’t understand the feline sensibilities. But for now, I’ll just sit on Mom’s lap and purr. Blackie will understand. She’s probably doing the same thing. Check back now and then. I'll keep you posted on the latest developments! Hope to see you soon. Sanderson |
