Sanderson's Diary, January 2006
January 1 What a party last night. Things were so exciting that I was in bed at midnight and waited there for the neighbors to set off the fireworks so I could go back to sleep. I guess with maturity comes wisdom, one piece of which is that I can’t see any point in missing out on my sleep. And they sure weren’t going to get me to eat sauerkraut! (A little champagne might have been nice, though.) I do love living in Northern California. We have these resident deer, or at least that’s the way I refer to them, because they are frequently sacked out under the front trees or can be watched drinking from the stream or pond in the back yard. They seem to like the grub. More on that later, but suffice it to say for now that we have the best salad bar in town! January 6 It has been raining off and on all year now. I’m getting to be quite the weather cat. We have multiple climates in this town. The weather will be doing one thing at our house and another at Aunt Barb’s only a mile away. And we have separate climate zones right here on the property. It will be raining in the back yard and not in the front. I love the weather entertainment. Mom got a remote weather station for Christmas and now I even know from the inside how cold it is outside. I try to sneak out and verify it, but I haven’t gotten too far yet. January 11 Mom was supposed to have been on Jury Duty this week, but the jury selection was postponed for a week. I’d like to be a juror some day. I think the justice system is really missing out by not having the perspective of a few cats in the jury box. I mean after all, we’ve got the box down pat, and we understand all about what makes a legal claws. January 13 Oh boy, Friday the 13th. It is lucky for Mom, because she was born on one, but I’m not sure about me. I think I will dispense with trying to sneak out of the house today, just in case.
January 16 It snowed last night. (Good thing Mom’s jury duty was canceled.) I love it when it snows. Everything looks so clean and fresh, and it is perfect sleeping weather. It looks plenty cold out, but as I have the advantage of being an indoor cat, I get the view without the air conditioning! And we have four-wheel drive, so I don’t need to worry about my next sack of food. Priorities, right? January 20 It snowed again, this time almost all day long. Mom took the Jeep down to get the mail and the newspaper. It’s good to know the car has another purpose besides getting me more food, which Mom did yesterday just in case we got snowed in today. Mom also did my nails. I didn’t complain. The duller and thicker they are at the base, the easier it is to turn off the overhead lights in the living room. She likes to leave them on at their dimmest over night. I, on the other hand, try to conserve on energy and turn them off after she goes to bed. A guy’s got to have a cause, right? Check back now and then. I'll keep you posted on the latest developments! Hope to see you soon. Sanderson |
