July 4

Well, the big day has arrived for another year.  The little kiddies can’t wait for dark so their mommies and daddies will bring out the fireworks and start the ground, air, and noise pollution. Personally, I’m just going to stay in this chair with Claybourne and give thanks that it is he who wears the clothes and not me!

July 16

We seem to have a new cat in the neighborhood who likes to wander by my patio on occasion. Strangest looking cat. He seems to be siamese, but his legs and tail are kind of tiger stripped.  Anyway, he’s awfully skittish. Mom opens a door and I can hear him muttering “Feet, don’t fail me now,” as he streaks across the yard. I guess I don’t have to worry about competition from that one.

July 23

Mom gave me my Heartgard medicine today. It is supposed to be chewable and beef flavor cats love! Who are they kidding.  We’ve been going through this for around 12 years now, and I have yet to chew the tablet. Mom just breaks it into four pieces, opens my mouth, and drops the pieces down my throat one at a time.  I promise not to spit them out, and she promises not to do it again for another month. It’s sort of an uneasy alliance.

July 28

I should have known something was going on when Mom came in from the garage with my pod carrier. She nicely arranged a flannel sheet over the sitting cushion and then added the cat, oops, that was me.  Turns out we were getting the carpets cleaned.  Sure was noisy, but at least in the pod I can see all around, unlike my “airline approved” carrier where I have to stay curled up to fit in the stupid thing.  Thank goodness Mom hasn’t actually taken me on a plane in it.  I think if cats were meant to fly, we’d have been born with wings instead of tails (although the airplanes, inferior species that they are, seem to need both).
