Sanderson's Diary, May 2007
May 1 Mayday, Mayday, today is the first of May! It is also Sanderson Day. I think it should be a national holiday, don’t you? Today I am ten years old. I think that rather than being called “cute and cuddly,” I’ll say I’ve graduated to “dignified.” That doesn’t make me seem too stodgy, does it? I still play volleyball pretty good. I got two four-packs of my favorite foam rubber balls this morning (a good thing, because some of the others are getting pretty ragged from mouth transportation), and we had a rousing game of ball. Mom throws me one-hoppers and I leap into the air and swat them back to her. Pretty good for ten, huh? Then Mom gets to pick them up and put them away afterward. I don’t do clean-up! May 4 Okay, Mom’s on to my latest pill trick. She thought that because I wasn’t spitting them back out at her, that I actually swallowed. But she caught me trying to dump one, so now she has started to hold me for a while and then open my mouth to check before she lets me leave her lap. May 7 I have to admit that I feel better with the pills. They give me a lot more energy. Enough that I am back to play-fighting Mom’s arm when she’s on the computer. I don’t understand what the big deal is if she drips a little blood now and then. It’s for a good cause, right? At least she doesn’t get mad at me. I told her I’d give her a day off for Mothers’ Day. May 10 Speaking of Mothers’ Day, it’s coming up this Sunday. I think this year I’ll get Mom a case for the sewing machine I got for her on Valentine’s Day. Elegant yet practical! Besides, I will be less tempted to try to swipe and unroll the spool of thread, which is beginning to really bug her. May 16 Well, now they tell me that my blood sugar is a little too low. Seems like we went through this a couple of years ago. Wish they’d make up their minds. Now Mom is supposed to cut me back to a quarter of a pill twice a day. Do you know how hard it is to swallow a quarter of a pill? Maybe if I don’t remind her, they won’t make me go back in for another blood test. I gave at the office! May 28 Go figure this one. Today is Memorial Day “observed.” The Indianapolis 500, which always used to be run on Memorial Day, was held on Saturday, or was it Sunday (a guy loses track, no pun intended, but I know it was run before today). Well, we flew the flag the whole weekend and Monday as well, so we had it covered. Check back now and then. I'll keep you posted on the latest developments! Hope to see you soon. Sanderson |
