THIS PAGE IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF PUMPKIN, WHO WAS STRUCK DOWN BY A SPEEDING DRIVER ON DECEMBER 4, 1999. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE, PUNKY. YOU WILL BE MISSED.

December 1

Oh boy! This is the last month of the last year of the century. Feels kind of awesome, being around to witness the coming of the new millenium. I mean, a cat has nine lives, but you have to be born at the right time to be here to witness this one. I'm actually pretty excited. With all the whoopla about Y2K, I have done some thinking. A number of commercials have tried to cash in on renaming the event, but I think they have all missed the mark. Y2K really means YES TO KITTENS!

December 4

Today I am very sad. Aunt Barb called this afternoon to say that my cousin Pumpkin, who was just 13 months old, passed away after being struck by a speeding driver in front of his home. Punky usually stayed indoors with his girl cousins or played on the roof of their townhouse. But a cat is going to be curious, and he snuck out while his Mom was going to the laundry room. If there's any justice in this world, little orange guy, your death was not for naught. We only visited a couple of times, but you were a good man and I'm going to miss you.

December 10

We just had another death in the family, but this time at least it was mechanical. The refrigerator croaked yesterday! It wasn't really that big of a deal for me, because my primary food doesn't need refrigeration, but it sure was interesting watching Mom try to figure out what was still cold enough to go into the upstairs fridge and what wasn't too thawed or warmed to cook. Boy did we have an oven full of chicken and ribs last night! And as you know my love of chicken, I was very well fed when I finally sacked out for the night (burp!). I did have an apprehensious moment or two when they pulled the dead fridge out from the wall to clean behind it in preparation for the new one that is coming tomorrow. As you might remember, I forget where I have stashed things. At least there wasn't anything embarrasing underneath, and I finally have my favorite catnip mouse back!

December 18

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Well, not that it's snowing or anything, because it's in the 60s here in Sacramento, but Mom has been wrapping prezzies and I have been helping (sort of like Shake 'n Bake), and it is so much fun! I've staked out the ones that I want to open. I know the ones that are for me, because they are the ones that Mom went into the bathroom to wrap. Remember, I'm pretty good at snatching things out from under her nose. This year she went nuts shopping, so there was a marvelous pile of things to choose from. Easy pickings for a stealthy cat! Maybe if I cuddle up to Mom really nice this evening she will let me open one of my gifts. I sure hope I get more volleyballs!

Check back now and then. I'll keep you posted on the latest developments! Hope to see you soon.
